Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was hired by the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. The following year, she was general correspondent for NBC News in Washington. From 1981 onwards she began to report on the White House. In 1988 she was appointed the top reporter for the congressional section. When she joined NBC News in 1992, Mitchell was named as the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter in NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debate among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as arms control, budget tax reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of the president Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
